Cannubi
The history here is genuinely tangible and the proof above all is a bottle of wine, the oldest known in the Langa, which carries the writing “Cannubi 1752”. This precious memento demonstrates how the Cannubi vineyard was already famous before the arrival of the Barolo wine.
In 1997, the Einaudi family had the opportunity to buy from Gancia, an important vineyard, formerly the property of Viganò, comprising 2.25 hectares of vines in the heart of the Cannubi, dominated by a fascinating farmhouse.
Already Luigi Einaudi had sought to buy this property during his mandate at the Quirinale, but the owner, knowing of the President’s interest, put up the price and as a result, it all came to nothing. Thus, there is a bond that links the spirit of the founder and of the family: to produce great wines starting above all, from the excellence of one’s own land.
The name Cannubi has given nobility to other worthy crus, just like in Burgundy, the vineyard of Romanèe gave the name also to Romanèe Conti and to Romanèe Saint-Vivant. It must therefore be acknowledged that this small hill has increased the value of the surrounding territory, like nowhere else in Italy.
